Verified Views for a Sheerwater Regeneration Scheme in Woking.
One of the most powerful ways of kickstarting change in under-served communities is through regeneration projects. Many existing urban areas don’t have access to or have lost community hubs needed to provide opportunities and support growth. Often by investing in these areas, providing contemporary housing and community services, local authorities are able to breathe fresh life into them.
One such example of an exciting regeneration project that we have had the pleasure of working on has been the Sheerwater redevelopment in Woking. Working with HTA Design we were tasked with producing a series of 8 verified views, all at AVR2 level. This meant going to the site and taking photographs from specific, predetermined viewpoints with the latest in high tech photography equipment. We then created block massing models to show the size and scale of the project proposals, which were then mapped precisely onto these baseline images to create photomontages showing the exact visual impact of the development.
The Sheerwater proposal was a huge development. It included over 1,000 new homes, half of which were affordable, in addition to a children’s centre, community hub, skate park, and many sports facilities including football pitches and a swimming pool. With such a large development, it was very important to gauge the scale of the visual impact from many different angles. This was why we produced eight different verified views, making sure to capture a variety of viewpoints including views from the canal towpath and the residential estate. Such a large development will inevitably have a large visual impact, so we were tasked to make sure we produced as accurate a depiction of it as possible for all those involved, including the planning authorities.
